I noticed that it is quieter than the ones I see in cooking demos on youtube of other brands and sizes. I love the way the machine will come on automatically when the plunger is put in top, or you have the option to turn off and on. Well my vitamix is quicker but the consistency is not as easily controlled to be creamy. I like the whipping blade for whipping cream, works better than my vitamix. I can dice finely Jalapeno in the small bowl(it is not sealed at bottom), pull it out, then used the shredder blade and do cabbage and carrots in the big bowl. I cannot believe all the stuff it does well. I read a lot of reviews and watched a live demo at my local William Sonoma store on the $599.00 Kitchen Aid food processor (I think it is 3 horse power to be able to handle lots of bread making), but I think this breville is a better machine. The bottom middle hole has been sealed for the large bowl. No this breville food processor will not leak.I make dishes for community meals, and the machinery comes in handy for the larger quantities that these meals require. Despite my owning and enjoying the use of the equipment I've purchased, I still will chop, grate, dice, or slice by hand if I'm doing a small amount. Invest in a good whip, good knives (and work on your knife skills), a mandolin and grater, etc, all of which can be kept easily accessible, and none of which are very heavy to lift and move. You're not likely to use them very often, if you have to lug them out and find room for them each time you want to use them. If you don't have room on your counter for the equipment you are looking at, then I recommend saving your money. Again, i would find it difficult to have to move my mixer or my blender off a shelf and onto the counter in order to use either, and I know I wouldn't use them as often as I do, and would not use many of my favorite recipes either, if I had to deal with having to move the mixer or blender before and after each use. I keep my Breville blender and my Kitchen Aid artisan planetary mixer just to the right of my refrigerator on the back surface of this counter, which I reserve for food prep before cooking or baking. I admit that this is not my only counter space, in that I have an equal amount of counter space at a right angle to this wall, with my refrigerator at one end and my sink at right angles to the counter on the other end. I have room on either of these counter tops for a standard baker's half sheet in front of either of these gadgets, or for a 7 quart slow cooker, or electric pressure cooker, or deep fryer, or for my recipes that I normally keep in a very large three ring binder in a drawer just under my counter. I'm not someone who keeps my cookbooks or any decorative items on my counters, (unless I count my Breville to the back left of my stove top and my Zojirushi to the back right of my stovetop as decorative). I can still put a half sheet pan on my counter in front of it, when I'm preparing something for the oven or removing from the oven. However, I feel secure that this hefty machine is not going to "walk" or vibrate around on my counters while in use, and it really doesn't take up all that much space. If I did that, i would probably be one of the people complaining that it's too heavy or too bulky to be moving from shelf to counter and back, because it certainly is a hefty tool. I use this machine often enough that it doesn't make sense for me to keep it on a shelf under my counters. There is NOTHING that I wish were different about this machine. I keep this processor right up on the counter to the left of my stove top, with the attachments just to the right of it, so when I want to use it (which is pretty darn often), I just slide the processor forward, tip the attachments down behind it for access to the tool I need, then close and tip the attachments back up (so nothing gets splashed on what I'm not using).
